PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
October 19, 2011

A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 1:20 p.m. in the second f1oor conference room in the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

PRESENT: PauI Barry, Linda Carrasquillo, Charles Clarke, Bernard Corona, Edward Dettore, Vincent Parys, Eugene Pushefski, Susan Tukey.
Excused: Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Melodie Wilson.

ABSENT:

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK:

None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Charles Clarke motioned that the approval of the minutes from the September 21, 2011 minutes be approved. Commissioner Vincent Parys 2nd. after making a correction of the previous months minutes where the date for placement of the flags for veterans Day was omitted, the date October 29th @ 7:30 a.m. was left out.

MOTION:  Approved.

CORRESPONDENCE: French Social Club indicated that they were not pleased that the 2011 Memorial Day Parade was canceled due to weather after spending significant time preparing their parade Float; they also expressed a desire to be involved in the planning of the parade.

MOTION:

BILLS: Motion made by Commissioner Susan Tukey to pay the clerk. Commissioner Vincent Parvs 2nd.

                        MOTION:  Passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT:   $11,690.00

UNFINISHED/OLD/ BUSINESS:

MOTION:

NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Parys will be representing the Patriotic Commission with a float at the Hartford Veterans Day parade on Sunday Nov. 6th.

MOTION:

Miscellaneous: Discussion among commission members regarding a commission agenda and appointing various members to assume responsibility for each event. Commissioner Dettore volunteered to be the Master of Ceremonies at the Bicentennial Square Ceremony, Commissioner Carrasquillo and Tukey both expressed interest in taking charge of the Flag Essay contest. Annual events agenda will be available at the November meeting.
A brief discussion ensued in regard to the correspondence from the French social club, they may attend any of our meetings and speak as a Resident or citizen and make suggestions, but will not be involved in the planning of the parade.

MOTION:

ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Vincent Parys motioned for adjournment at 8:10 p.m.
Commissioner Charles Clarke 2nd.
